Recent I did a guest blog post for Douglas Sonders on the thoughts and concerns of a photography student about to graduate. I want to say thanks to Douglas for the opportunity and for all the inspiration he has been to me so far in my photographic journey.

I had to photograph and compose a photo illustration for a recent school assignment. I choose to illustrate people who stay up all night or day playing video games and looking kind of "zoned out".

I included some behind the scenes photos on how the image was made and how it was lit after the jump...

Started out with a B800 boomed over the subject inside of a octobox

I then set up a 2nd B800 camera left with a 20 degree grid pointed at the subjects face

Then added a 3rd B800 camera right with a 30 degree grid pointed at the subjects body to add a bit of fill light

I then photographed a clock to add into the photo to simulate time around the subject. For that I just photographed my clock than changed the hour up once, photographed, changed the hour up, photographed, etc......
I went out last weekend to shoot some new portfolio pieces. I think this photo from the shot came out quite nice!

This past Saturday while everyone napped at the hotel (and me being OCD) I wondered around the hotel working on a little timelapse project I wanted to do. Everything was done with my iPhone besides the music and putting the clips in a timeline.
In total: 2,700 images where taken (all on iPhone)
Each section took 5 minutes to complete and took 300 images that were combined into a 10 second video. The only thing that I had difficultly with was finding places to prop my iPhone. I've always rolled my eyes at the iPhone tripods but I would have loved to have one during all this. Once I completed all the clips I imported them into iMovie, added music and converted them to black & white.
Let me know what you think!
